Although the two pictures above are taken with the same camera settings, the left image appears more bright. The only way to control the exposure of the dental images is by setting the camera to manual mode.

Moving away from or close to the captured subject may change the image exposure even if the camera settings did not change. Moreover, tilting the camera will modify the way the light falls on the subject being captured hence the image brightness will change accordingly.

The image above to the right has been taken from the same distance used to take the image to the left. The only difference is that there is a slight change in the way the camera has been hand held. Tilting the camera in a different way in the first capture has changed the way the light fell on the teeth and sequencially the light has been reflected differently causing the increase of brightness in the image on the left.
